Today the Government announced that HIPS have been suspended with immediate effect with view to being abolished.
The news comes as no surprise, and was widely expected, as both coalition parties disliked. However, it has been rumoured that some elements of HIPS may still be retained and could return as a requirement in another guise?
The immediate impact could see an acceleration in the sale of properties, which may indirectly have a positive impact on rents through a reduction in supply of available properties. EPC‘s (energy performance certificates), which are part of HIPS and included in the letting of properties will remain being a European directive.
